Born and raised on a squash court, Cameron’s parents played in the local competition several times a week, so it didn’t come as a surprise when he could hit the ball at age 2. He entered his first tournament at age 6, then his parents bought the local family run squash club when he was 8.

His father Steve coached Cameron from when he could first hit a ball, up until he took up a full time scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport in Brisbane, aged 18. Along the way he worked with Craig Simmich – a military man. He was hard as nails and Cameron never beat him.

Geoff Hunt and Rodney Martin were his coaches for the next 5 years in the AIS. As the names suggest, this was a great learning curve for Cameron and he was quickly introduced to full time training – twice a day, 6 days a week.

For the following 2 years, Cameron worked with Englishman Mike Johnson in Reading, England. With players of the calibre of Boswell, Ricketts and Jenson to train with, it took his game forward again. Since 2008, Cameron has been based in The Hague, Netherlands, and works closely with South African, Carl Koenig.
